'Windows in Paris' by Me

Windows in Paris, originally uploaded by PhotoPuddle.

Sometimes I go back through my old holiday photos to see what else there is as well as people posing in front of famous landmarks. And I wasn't surprised to find quite a few arty ones had sneaked in there. I took this one in Paris quite a few years ago now. I guess it's not unusual to want to take lots of pretty pictures in Paris though. I just think my husband should be very pleased we went there before my photography obsession started. If we went again it could be a very long trip!

'California / Los Angeles / .....' by Cuba Gallery

This is one of those photos I find strangly mesmerising. I don't know what it is about it. I definitely think ferris wheels make a great subject for a photo and I love the vintage tones but I think what I really love is the fact that it looks so high up. It doesn't look like there is a funfair or anything like that down below. Once you are up in one of those cars you'd feel free and happy. Well, what do you know, turns out I do know what I love about it!

'Birthday Streamers' by acreativemint

Birthday Streamers, originally uploaded by acreativemint.

I hope your week is going well. And I'd like to apologise to anyone in the UK who's got rather rubbish weather at the moment. It's the worst kind of weather really because it's dull, and it looks like rain but it's really muggy and hot. Just rain already and let's get back to the summer sunshine. Anyway, I am apologising because it's probably my fault the sun went away as I bought new sunglasses at the weekend. I am now fully prepared to not to wear them for the rest of the summer. Last year I made the sun go away by buying a paddling pool!

So here is my sunshine filled apology. When I saw this photo it made me smile. You can't even see what this is or what it's facing but you just know it was a beautiful hot day with a cool breeze blowing, lots of people enjoying themselves and just generally being in a good mood.

'Eiffel Tilt-Shift II' by ArnarBi

Eiffel Tilt-Shift II, originally uploaded by ArnarBi.

I don't know if you've ever heard of a photographic effect called tilt-shift but I think it's awesome. Here's an amazing example of it. Basically it's a process that makes normal photos look like minature scale models. To be honest I don't know a lot about it but the effect can be achieved either by using a special lens or faking it with photo editing software. Either way it looks really cool! What do you think of it?

@Home, originally uploaded by *Twinkel*.

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend. I had a busy one which included nights out, late nights, swimming, shopping and a funfair. As the last few days have been so busy I thought it would be nice to keep it chilled out with this lovely photo. It was the simplicity of this that caught my eye along with the fact that it just looks so bright and fresh. And of course the flip flops are pretty and I rather like the flooring as well!

'Nearly old enough for the carousel' by Me

I took my little girl to Brighton on Monday and we had a fantastic time together, especially playing on the beach. She loved the carousel and really wanted to go on the horses but unfortunately for her I decided she wasn't old enough. Anyway, it was just the two of us and I've no idea how I'd get on myself and get her on with me! And I bet there's an age restriction on it too. I promised her we'd go on it soon though!

I like this photo I took of her on the beach as she was watching it go round. The clouds were so interesting that day as I think you can see here. And I love that the carousel is blurred in the background so the picture is still all about her!

'bamboo hooks' by infusion fibers

bamboo hooks, originally uploaded by infusion fibers.

I know this blog is meant to be all about the photos but I am actually after some advice tonight. Does anyone know how to crochet? I used to enjoy knitting and have heaps of wool around the house but have lost the motivation really as it's just so time consuming. I therefore thought I might give crochet a go. So, how easy is it to teach yourself crochet? Any tips would be greatly apprieciated as I have absolutely no idea where to start.

And don't worry I haven't forgotten about the photos! I obviously wanted to find a gorgeous crochet inspired photo to go with this post. I found so many lovely pictures of people's brightly coloured blankets, cushions, hats etc but this one really struck my eye as it was completely the opposite to all those pictures. I love the natural colours. And that selection of crochet hooks looks impressive. It looks looks like it was taken by someone who is fantastic at photography and rather a pro at crochet too!

'Bright as a Daisy!' by Christine Eaves

Bright as a Daisy!, originally uploaded by Christine Eaves.

Not many words from me tonight. Just going to show you this beautiful daisy photo. It's gorgeous because of its simplicity and the focus is fantastic. But what I really love are the bright colours. Makes it such a sunny and happy photo. I hope it makes you smile a little.

'Seagull' by Panorama Paul

Seagull, originally uploaded by Panorama Paul.

I really want to take a fabulous seagull in flight photo but am failing miserably. I've had two trips to the sea in the past week or so and have done a lot of pointing my camera at the sky and clicking randomly when I see one coming! Unfortunately I've not had any success in capturing anything that's any good. I therefore headed over to Flickr to see how other people had got along and there are some awesome shots out there!

Take this one for example. The seagull has been captured beautifully. It looks so magestic and proud! I think think even without the bird it would be a fantastic photo but the seagull really adds a special something to it.

My quest is not over. I will still wander around staring at the sky when I hear seagulls over head. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

Sky Sea Land, originally uploaded by Andy Beez ☽☼☾.

When I first saw this amazing photo I thought it was somewhere really hot and exotic. I especially love all these fantastic blues. However, I was rather surprised when I read the desciption that it wasn't somewhere in the Indian Ocean but St Ives in Cornwall. I've always thought I'd quite like to go to Cornwall on holiday but this confirms it. Anyway, who needs the stress of a long haul flight when you can pop in the car and be somewhere like this in just a few hours!

'Burst of yellow' by Me

Burst of yellow, originally uploaded by PhotoPuddle.

I took this. I love taking macro shots of flowers. I just love all the detail they expose, for example if you look hard enough at this one you can see that the flower looks almost furry. It's also a great opportunity to capture some fantastic bright colours. Here, here and here are a few more macro flower shots I have taken. They've been featured on the blog already but it was before anyone was actually reading it so you may have missed them!

vista grande, originally uploaded by Ilikethenight.

Happy weekend to all you lovely people. I hope you all have a fantastic time whatever you are up to!

I don't really feature landscape photos here that often but I really should as there are so many truly amazing ones out there. Take for example this one which is just awesome. It's totally mesmerising as there are so many different parts of this scene to take in.

I will now go off searching for more stunning photos like this and will report back with my findings soon.

Hooray I'm back online. I bet you hadn't realised I'd gone anywhere but our phone line went down yesteday so we were without internet all day! Not too much of a disaster as I was able to go online on my mobile phone but when that happens it always makes you realise how much we take for granted these days.

I remember a simpler time when there was no internet. When I was at school I managed to do perfectly well using the books in the library to research my homework. How easy it would be now to just google it. Even when I was at university the internet wasn't as big as it is today. I had an email address but I didn't use it much. Contact with my friends back home was usually made through phone calls and handwritten letters. I can't say I'd ever want to return to a life like that though! I am rather too dependant on my laptop these days and so much I do with my life now revolves around getting online.

I thought this beautiful photo would go with my ramblings on the internet perfectly. We all do this sometimes don't we? Curl up in bed with our laptop to write, surf, or do whatever it is we do on our computer. I just love the idea of someone from another point in time doing exactly the same thing with a typewriter.

'Perfect afternoon' by Me

Perfect afternoon, originally uploaded by PhotoPuddle.

As I said in last night's post, me, hubby and little one went for an impromptu outing to the seaside yesterday. I was really pleased with the photos I took. And also pleased that I saved one until today to post. The weather's been mainly miserable today so looking at this reminds me of the hot summer's weekend. I think this one really captures the peacefulness of the cliffs by the sea. I will definitely be posting a few more soon!

'Bar Lights' by Lanamaniac

Bar Lights, originally uploaded by Lanamaniac.

How is it Sunday night already? I've had a lovely weekend. The weather was gorgeous and we had friends to stay. When they left this afternoon we didn't want the weekend to end so ever the spontaneous family we jumped in the car and headed off out. We went to a pub in a place called Peacehaven where we had ice cream in the beer garden overlooking the sea. Went for a wander over the cliffs too. Photos to be uploaded and will follow soon.

Tonight's photo makes me feel all nostalgic for summer holiday's abroad. It really has that feeling about it - you know when you head out for the evening, it's still pretty hot and you stroll up and down the restaurant areas looking for somewhere nice to have dinner. I'm also so impressed at places where you order a beer and it comes in the appropriate glass! I have been known to choose a drink based on the coolness of the glass.

Anyway, I hope you've had a lovely weekend too and this fabulous photo has helped you capture the holiday feeling like it did for me.

'Blue Umbrella (Slight Return)' by Phil Dillon

Well it's been rather hot here today so I though I'd post this fanatastic snow picture to cool myself down. It's really hard to imagine being wrapped up in all these clothes and having snow falling on me but it was only few months ago really that this was exactly the case.

I love the way all the huge snowflakes have been captured in this photo. But the blue umbrella is definitely the most striking thing about it and really brightens up what was probably a horrible, grey, snowy day. It makes it look like it wasn't actually that bad! I also rather like the girly pink boots!

Right, I am cooled down now and have realised I'm not ready for the cold weather again yet! Here's hoping the summer weather sticks around for a little bit longer!

'Candy colored Portobello Road (365/145)' by JenniPenni

I love rows of multi-coloured houses! I think they are so pretty and you'd have to be happy living there. I do wonder though how the house colours were chosen. Did all the residents pick a colour out of a hat? And what if someone wants to paint their house? Does it have to go to a special colour commitee? I am thinking about this way too much aren't I?!

I think this picture is brilliant. The houses are such great colours but what makes it really come alive is the fantastic sky. The photo works much better, I think, for having those amazing clouds that it would have done if it were just a completely clear day.

'Butterfly' by Me

Butterfly, originally uploaded by PhotoPuddle.

I took this photo nearly a year ago. It was about a week after I opened my flickr account and realised photography was the thing for me! I remember just being out for a walk, pushing my baby along in her buggy and spotting this butterfly flying around. Out came my camera which I'd been carrying around in my bag and I snapped away. I was actually very pleased with my first attempt at butterfly photography. I couldn't wait to see what my second attempt looked like.

So nearly a year has passed and have I seen and butterflies around to take photos of? No I flippin' haven't! I've seen a few in the distance or when I've not had a camera to hand. But not yet had the chance to see whether my first butterfly capture was just a fluke or not! Summer is not done yet though and if I find another one willing to have its photo taken I shall post here and let you know all about it!

This one kind of follows on from yesterday. After a relaxing day by the pool what better way to end the day than a sunset swim with friends. The people in this photo look like they're having a great time. The photographer has managed the capture the playfulness brilliantly even though you can only really see sillouettes. It's another photo that makes me wish I was there right now!

'bliss' by lizbeth*

bliss, originally uploaded by lizbeth*.

I can't believe it's Sunday night already. Where has the weekend gone? My favourite part of the weekend definitely has to be taking my little girl to the swimming pool. We're trying to go fairly regularly now and it's easier to get the motivation now the weather is so nice. She's getting so confident in the water now. She was even swimming about all by herself today (with her armbands on of course). I am just so very proud of her and she makes me so happy.

Another swimming pool scenario that would make me happy is pictured here. The photographer has called this photo 'bliss' and I couldn't agree more. The light and tone of this photo really capture that laid back summer vibe. How lovely to spend an afternoon by the pool with a drink and a good book.

'red.' by hello gaby

Firstly, thank you all so very much for your lovely encouraging comments on my last post. Obviously when I posted that picture I did hope someone might say something nice but I was really overwhelmed by all your kind words. You've definitely given me something to think about now.

Secondly, I also mentioned in that post that I'd be sharing another lovely picture with you yesterday. Unfortunately I got back far too late from a great night out drinking Pimms with friends to post anything. I'm sure you'll understand!

And thirdly, isn't this photo great? I'm sharing it with you tonight as I think it's a fantastic Saturday night image. The colours are just so bold and striking and you've just got to love bright red shoes! I also love what this photo seems to symbolise. I sense the anticipation. Looking out over the city wondering what the night has in store and what fun is going to be had in these shoes. I bet it was a great night out!

'My postcards!' by Me

My postcards!, originally uploaded by PhotoPuddle.

I decided to get some of my photos made in to postcards. They arrived on Tuesday and of course I took photos of the photos. I am so excited though as they look fantastic! It's even making me wonder if photography could ever become more than just a hobby for me.

Normal service will resume tomorrow with a gorgeous picture of something lovely by someone very talented but just wanted to share my excitement with you for a moment today!
